Gabriela Dumitrescu

I am a Berlin based artist. As a choreographer, I have collaborated with numerous German theater and opera directors, as well as with film directors, for example Roland Emmerich for his movie "Anonymous". The Doina is a new artistic form which I have created. It is a synthesis of performance and visual/video-installation art. It uses and develops aspects of the musical Doina (which is found in Romanian music and Jewish Klezmer) on a performance and visual arts level. My Doinas are performative miniatures that allow a universal reading of a personal experience. As a dancer and choreographer I use the body as a means of expression. As a video artist, I record the movement of the body and edit the recorded sequences to create "paintings" that consist of movement.
